Rules of Myth

Came across a interesting point with my writing group today that I think would make a good exercise for writing. We all know the myths of vampires and werewolves and ghosts and such, right? Well… if you were to use one or more in your novel or short story what would the rules of your world be for the one(s) you use?
Could vampires be seen in mirrors? Could ghosts go through walls or would such physical barriers block them on their own level of existence as well?
