Writing Prompt: A Bird in Hand
24
January 2010
There is an old saying that says that “A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.” Today’s assignment is to take that phrasing and write from it. For inspiration here is some information on the origin of the phrase, as well as information on its use as pub names in the Middle Ages in England and even a Pennsylvania town name in 1734.
Some examples of how you could write from this would be:
- a nonfiction study of what the phrase means
- a historical look at where it began
- a short story about the activity in a pub by that name.
